{"id":10498,"date":"2014-10-17T10:59:27","date_gmt":"2014-10-17T10:59:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/viconsortium.com\/?p=10498"},"modified":"2014-10-17T10:59:27","modified_gmt":"2014-10-17T10:59:27","slug":"de-jongh-rebukes-senate-cutting-2015-budget-increasing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/wp.viconsortium.com\/?p=10498","title":{"rendered":"De Jongh Rebukes Senate For Cutting His 2015 Budget While Increasing Their Own"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Wednesday night, Governor John P. de Jongh, Jr. took action on the final pieces of legislation that comprise the Fiscal Year 2015 budget for the Virgin Islands government.\u00a0In approving Bill 30-0463, the largest of the budget bills for the operations of the central government, which also contained the controversial streetlight amendment the Governor <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/viconsortium.com\/featured\/governor-de-jongh-vetoes-contentious-streetlights-bill\/\">vetoed this week<\/a><\/span>, de Jongh said it was a &#8220;selfish posture&#8221; by the Senate to increase its budget, while slashing\u00a0the\u00a0operating budget<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0of the Office of the Governor from $9 to $2 million for Fiscal Year 2015.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In\u00a0a letter to Senate President Shawn Michael Malone on Wednesday\u00a0night, Governor de Jongh wrote, \u201cWhy this budget reduction was limited solely to the Office of the Governor is puzzling since this body undergoes a similar transition on a more frequent basis.
