A streetlight affixed to a WAPA pole in Christiansted, close to Sonya’s Jewelry, fell from the pole Friday afternoon and crashed into a car, then a taxi bus, stalling traffic for about an hour while police investigated the incident.<\/p>\n

VI Consortium<\/em> was called to the scene and upon arrival witnessed the streetlight sitting on the roadside, next to the black car \u00a0it had crashed onto, with shattered glass littering the nearby area close to a cafe’.<\/p>\n

The driver of the damaged taxi bus said as soon as he turned the curve leaving the Ft. Christiansvaern vicinity heading West, he saw the streetlight crashing down onto the parked car and it immediately struck his bus.<\/p>\n

One lady, who works at the nearby cafe, said WAPA had recently installed the streetlight, adding even more mystery to the incident. Furthermore, eyewitnesses say conditions were not windy at the time of the incident. Both vehicles sustained minimal damage and no one was injured.<\/p>\n

When police arrived on the scene, pictures were taken as well as information from both vehicle owners. The officer also contacted WAPA about the downed streetlight.<\/p>\n
