Longtime University of the Virgin Islands Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences Dr. Simon Jones-Hendrickson has resigned his post\u00a0in order to assume the role of Chief Economist and Fiscal Policy Advisor in the new Mapp administration.<\/p>\n

Dr. Simon Jones-Hendrickson<\/p><\/div>\n

The announcement was made Tuesday by UVI Provost Dr. Camille McKayle.<\/p>\n

Dr. Jones-Hendrickson has been affiliated with UVI\u00a0for almost four decades, first as a student, and then serving\u00a0as a faculty member and professor of economics, a scholar, department chair and dean.<\/p>\n

While the University will\u00a0initiate a nationwide search\u00a0for the next dean of the college, Dr. Kimarie Engerman will\u00a0serve as interim dean, Dr. McKayle said.<\/p>\n

Dr. Engerman is a summa cum laude graduate of Bowie State University in Maryland, with a bachelor of science degree in psychology. She completed post-doctoral studies in engineering education at Howard University in Washington, D.C., and served as principal investigator and co-principal investigator on various grants.<\/p>\n

Currently a\u00a0Provost Fellow, Dr. Engerman provides leadership for the implementation of the Dual Enrollment Initiative between UVI and the Virgin Islands Dept. of Education, according to a press release issued by the university. She also heads up the creation of a university-wide advising plan, and a junior faculty mentoring plan. Through a recent National Science Foundation fellowship, Dr. Engerman completed a post-graduate certificate program in academic leadership from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
