Former Acting Attorney General Soraya Diase-Coffelt will hold a press conference on Friday, Jan. 23 in St. Thomas to “address the cries of the people for justice,” and to present her case for having an independent attorney general and Department of Justice, according to a press release issued Thursday night.<\/p>\n
In a brief statement, Diase-Coffelt said the “status quo” cannot continue in order to “fight the war against corruption.”<\/p>\n
“In order to fight the war against corruption that is so important to our well being as residents here, we cannot allow for the status quo to remain and politics as usual to prevail,” she said.<\/p>\n
She went on to address her Jan. 15 resignation.<\/p>\n
“Before my resignation, people were hopeful that the war against corruption would begin,” she said. Now, after my resignation, people come up to me and say that they have no hope. I will address the cries of the people for justice.”<\/p>\n
The press conference will be held in the\u00a0Conference Room at 4A & B Kongens Gade (Education St.) on the 2nd Floor at 10 a.m.<\/p>\n
