Lt. Governor Osbert Potter is alerting anyone who\u00a0purchased property during delinquent tax sales conducted by the Virgin Islands tax collector’s office during 2012 and 2013 to “refrain from improving, transferring or encumbering the real said property until further notice.”<\/p>\n

Potter released the notice after it was made known at a\u00a0Mapp press conference on Feb. 12 that at least 16 buyers were found to have engaged in possible fraudulent activity\u00a0at the auctions.<\/p>\n

A damning report issued by the V.I. Inspector General’s office dated Sept. 15, 2014\u00a0outlined a host of administrative irregularities and possible fraudulent conduct that may have occurred at sales in 2012 and 2013.<\/p>\n

Potter will conduct a review of all auction sales during the specified time frame.<\/p>\n
