The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority (WAPA) and Zenon Construction crews will continue installing streetlight bases in downtown Christiansted on Monday, March 2.\u00a0 From 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., vehicular traffic on Strand Lane, from Queen Cross to King Street, will be rerouted while crews pour concrete for bases.<\/p>\n
There will be no electrical service interruption as a result of the work being done, WAPA officials say.<\/p>\n
The decorative street light project entails removing\u00a0the overhead 200 watt high-pressure sodium lights, which are on utility poles, and replacing them with efficient 80 watt decorative LED street lights which will be powered from the new underground electric infrastructure. The conversion to LED lights is expected to\u00a0provide savings in maintenance costs and energy.\u00a0 A sample decorative street light is located on Queen Cross Street near the boardwalk.<\/p>\n
WAPA officials say they will make every effort to restore normal vehicular traffic as soon as possible.<\/p>\n
