THOMAS \u2013 A 34-year-old Estate Hull Bay man was arrested on assault and weapons charges Wednesday in connection with a nighttime Frenchtown stabbing the day before, according to police.<\/p>\n
Craig Abbott was charged with first-degree assault, third-degree assault and use of a dangerous weapon during a crime of violence after the victim identified Abbott as the man who stabbed him several times during an altercation, police said.<\/p>\n
The victim told police that he works as an entertainer in Frenchtown and had just finished his performance about 10:15 p.m. April 14 when the man later identified as Abbott bumped into him.<\/p>\n
Abbott called the victim a derogatory name and approached him with a knife drawn, but efforts to de-escalate the situation by communication failed, so the victim picked up a nearby bottle in order to defend himself, police said.<\/p>\n
The Hull Bay man then rushed the victim with the knife in his hand and a struggle ensued after Abbott grabbed the victim by his dreadlocks and the two men fell to the ground fighting, according to police.<\/p>\n
The victim said when he stood up he realized that he had been stabbed, police said.<\/p>\n
The victim was transported to the Roy L. Schneider Regional Medical Center where he was treated for stab wounds..<\/p>\n
Bail for Abbott was set at $100, 000 by Order of the Superior Court.<\/p>\n
Unable to post bail, Abbott was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending an Advise of Rights Hearing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
