ST. CROIX \u2013 A wide range of \u00a0educational programs and camps will be offered this summer by the University of the Virgin Islands.<\/p>\n
The program \u2013 which begins in June \u2013 is open to students, teachers and the general community and will offer everything from math and science to research and leadership development.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are extremely excited about our summer 2015 program offerings with a number of new programs being introduced this year,\u201d said Dr. Tonjia Coverdale, director of UVI Summer Programs. \u201cThere is something for everyone ranging from elementary-aged through senior citizens.\u201d<\/p>\n
New this year is a five-week Cyber Camp VI, a program for students in grades six\u00a0 to 12 interested in learning basic cyber security concepts. \u00a0Students in the program will become eligible to join the next round of The Cyber Patriot National Youth Cyber Defense Competition in fall 2015.\u00a0 The competition is sponsored by the U.S. Air Force Association.<\/p>\n
During the summer camp students will be introduced to basic cyber security concepts and hands-on activities required for the competition. Speakers from academia, cyber industries and Sandia National Laboratories will discuss various issues related to cyber security.<\/p>\n
This program is funded by a grant from the U.S.Department of Energy in collaboration with Norfolk State University.\u00a0The Cyber Camp will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Monday, June 1 through Friday, July 3, on the St. Thomas Campus.<\/p>\n
The UVI summer schedule will also feature college preparatory programs, undergraduate and graduate academic sessions, and a teacher training program.<\/p>\n
