ST. THOMAS \u2013 Four bills will be considered in the Committee on Rules and the Judiciary at Earle B. Ottley Legislative Hall today, according to the chairman of the committee.<\/p>\n
Sen. Kenneth Gittens said the committee will also hear testimony from nominees to four cabinet-level positions in hearings that begin at 12 p.m.<\/p>\n
The bills are:<\/p>\n
No. 31-0074 \u2013 An act to allow convicted criminals to have their sentences reduced after successfully completing academic or vocational training while in prison.<\/p>\n
No. 31-0094 \u2013 An act to allow criminal records to be officially erased and enact \u201cThe Second Chance for Jobs and Education after a Misdemeanor Conviction Act.\u201d<\/p>\n
No. 31-0083 \u2013 An act to amend local law relating to imprisoning minors convicted of first-degree murder.<\/p>\n
No. 31-0030 \u2013 An act to amend local law to allow immunity from prosecution to emergency care workers, also known as the \u201cGood Samaritan Law.\u201d<\/p>\n
Gittens said on Monday in St. Croix, his committee will consider Gov. Kenneth Mapp\u2019s nominations of Viviane Ebbesen-Fludd as Commissioner of the Department of Human Services; Mona Barnes as the Director of the Virgin Islands Territorial Emergency Management Agency (VITEMA) and Catherine Hendry as the Commissioner of the Department of Labor.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
