ST. THOMAS \u2013 Work on the Brookman Road Project begins on Monday and the public is urged to pay attention to the traffic detour signs that will be in place, the Department of Public Works said. Some detours are expected to remain in place for six months to a year.<\/p>\n
On Monday May 4, Brookman Road (Route 32) will be closed to westbound through traffic from the\u00a0intersection of Route 30 Bovoni Road at Nadir Intersection to the intersection of Route 38 Weymouth Rymer Highway at Fort Mylner Intersection. Only local traffic will be allowed past Nadir Intersection to access homes and businesses;\u00a0and haulers with heavy loads that cannot negotiate Donkey and Cassi Hill will be allowed through the project to go westbound.<\/p>\n
Vehicles traveling eastbound on Turpentine Road (Route 32) from the intersection of Weymouth Rymer Highway (Route 38) at Fort Mylner will be allowed to proceed through the work zone during the reconstruction of the road and installation of the storm water drainage systems.<\/p>\n
The detours are needed so the DPW contractor can make improvements to the drainage systems and install culvert crossings. At the same time, the contractor will reconstruct the road base and replace concrete pavement.<\/p>\n
Flaggers will be present to assist with traffic flow and DPW asked that motorists avoid Brookman Road, Route 32 by seeking alternate routes such as Route 38, Smith Bay Road and Route 30, Bovoni\/Frenchmans Bay Road.<\/p>\n
Island Roads Corp. has been contracted to do the work that is expected to take a year to complete.\u00a0 The cost of the project is $3,871,440.\u00a0\u00a0Motorists are asked to proceed with caution through these areas.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
