ST. CROIX — Being accepted to the U.S. Naval Academy is not a regular occurrence, but\u00a0Kobe A. Sutton, a senior at the St. Croix Educational Complex, has obtained acceptance to the Academy’s Annapolis, MD, arm, joining a distinguished group of Virgin Islanders attending Academies across the U.S. mainland, according to a press release issued by Delegate to Congress Stacey Plaskett.<\/p>\n
“I am humbled by being accepted to the academy. It is not every day that someone has this experience,” said Sutton, who credits his parents for encouraging him to achieve the goal. “I have always had an interest in military life and being that my father was in the military, I had a motivation to serve.”<\/p>\n
Plaskett, in congratulating Sutton, said his achievement comes only through hard work, dedication and through the motivation of dedicated parents, teachers and mentors.<\/p>\n
“I am extremely proud of Mr. Sutton. Being accepted to a U.S. Service Academy is no easy feat. It is indeed a testament to his years of hard work and the dedication of his parents and his teachers and it shows our young Virgin Islanders are in fact among the best and brightest around the country,” the freshman congresswoman said.<\/p>\n
Sutton, who is currently a senior at the St. Croix Educational Complex, applied to the Naval academy in 2014 and says his parents Lorna J. Williams-Sutton and VI National Guard Major Clayton A. Sutton, are the two most inspirational people in his life. He credits his father for inspiring him to serve in the Military.<\/p>\n
For extra curricular, Sutton enjoys drawing, writing poetry and playing music. He also has an interest in volleyball and boxing, and aspires to become a mechanical engineer in the military. Sutton has been an honor student throughout his years at the Educational Complex.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
