ST. THOMAS — The Committee for the Betterment of Carenage (CBC) will kick off its annual Father\u2019s Day weekend celebration in Frenchtown on Friday, according to a press release CBC issued on Tuesday. The three-night celebration pays tributes to the territory\u2019s fathers and father figures.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis celebration dates back to the 1950\u2019s,\u201d according to Franklin G. Sewer, Vice President of CBC, Inc. The committee works year round to fund-raise to stage this celebration in recognition of the many contributions of our fathers, he added.<\/p>\n
Additionally, this year marks the 20th anniversary of CBC.<\/p>\n
\u201cCBC was formed in 1995 to ensure that this tradition would continue. For the last two decades we have maintained an event that is synonymous with our Frenchtown community,\u201d said Gail Danet Joseph, CBC Treasurer and one of the committee\u2019s original members. \u201cThe last two decades have not been easy, they have come with a fair share of obstacles and challenges but we have pressed on regardless\u2026we look to the next 20 years,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
An opening ceremony featuring the coronation of Miss Carenage Takia Joseph and a ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday followed by musical performances featuring The Venemous Poizon Band and Spectrum Band. DJ Tony T will also entertain each night.<\/p>\n
On Saturday, the entertainment resumes at 6 pm with DJ Tony Tee, followed by Milo\u2019s Kings and Ah We Band.<\/p>\n
On Sunday, Father\u2019s Day, the celebration continues with the return of The Sammy Watts Combo at 5 pm, followed by Cool Session Brass until midnight. At 7:00 pm Sunday, prizes will be awarded for the Father\u2019s Day Fishing Tournament which was held on June 7.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
