THOMAS &#8212; The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) is advising residents that due to the approaching tropical wave, the sewer collection system may experience a large inflow of rain and storm water. The heavy rainfalls may result in overflows in certain areas and cause manhole covers to pop up.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><span class=\"\">Strong showers and thunder storms are expected to impact the Virgin Islands through Tuesday afternoon.<span class=\"\">\u00a0 <\/span>Until the rains and the run-off subside, the sewer collection system will continue to be impacted.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><span class=\"\">Residents are asked to report any overflows to the VIWMA at <span class=\"\">(340) 715-9199<\/span> on St. Thomas; (340) 712-4999 on St. Croix and <span class=\"\">(340) 774-2141<\/span> on St. John.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><span class=\"\">Persons with impacted immune systems or respiratory conditions are asked to avoid areas with standing water.
