Dwayne Fahie, 26, made his initial appearance in District Court on Thursday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Ruth Miller after his arrest for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of an unlicensed firearm, United States Attorney Ronald W.\u00a0Sharpe announced via press release.<\/p>\n

Fahie was released after posting a $50,000 property bond.<\/p>\n

On June 4, 2015, a federal grand jury returned a three-count indictment against Fahie,\u00a0charging him with two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and one count of possession of an unlicensed firearm. According to the indictment, Fahie was found in possession\u00a0of a firearm after he was convicted in the Superior Court of reckless endangerment.<\/p>\n

If convicted of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon under federal law, Fahie faces a maximum\u00a0sentence of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. If convicted of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon under territorial law, he faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a\u00a0\u00a025,000 fine. For possession of an unlicensed firearm, Fahie faces a maximum sentence of five\u00a0years in prison and a $15,000 fine.<\/p>\n

United States Attorney Sharpe reminds the public that an indictment is merely a formal charging\u00a0document and is not evidence of guilt. Every defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven\u00a0guilty.<\/p>\n

This case is the result of a joint investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and\u00a0Explosives and the Virgin Islands Police Department. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States\u00a0Attorney Sigrid M. Tejo-Sprotte.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
