CROIX &#8212; Senator Kenneth L. Gittens, chairman of the Committee on\u00a0Rules and the Judiciary, said in a press release issued on Friday that the Committee is preparing to hold two hearings this\u00a0week as the confirmation process of those individuals nominated\u00a0to serve in cabinet-level positions and on government boards and commissions.<\/p>\n<p>Gittens said the first upcoming hearing will be today at 9:30 a.m. in\u00a0the Frits E. Lawaetz Legislative Conference Room on St. Croix. The hearing will be\u00a0held to consider of the Kenneth Mapp nominations of Cedric\u00a0Armstrong to serve as a member of the V.I. Taxi Cab Commission; Randolph Bennett, to\u00a0serve as the Commissioner of the Department of Property and Procurement and\u00a0Deborah Howell, to serve as Adjutant General of the Virgin Islands National Guard.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has already been more than six months since the administration and this body have\u00a0been sworn in to office and as the governor continues to seek out skilled and competent\u00a0individuals to fill these very important positions in our government, the Committee on\u00a0Rules and Judiciary will continue to thoroughly vet these individuals and forward the<br \/>\nnominations to the full body for further consideration,\u201d Senator Gittens said. \u00a0According to Senator Gittens, another committee hearing is scheduled for the committee on Friday on St. Thomas, but the revised agenda has not yet been\u00a0completed.<\/p>\n<p>Among the things expected to be on the agenda for consideration are the renominations\u00a0of the 11 individuals previously nominated by Governor Mapp to serve in\u00a0various cabinet-level positions, but were <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/viconsortium.com\/politics\/31st-legislature-rejects-11-of-mapps-nominees-citing-pay-increase-impasse\/\" target=\"_blank\">rejected by the full body<\/a><\/span> when a\u00a0vote was held in May.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe process will continue as we work collectively to build this government.
