ST. CROIX — A highly anticipated program that is designed to train residents for jobs in the renewable energy field will soon be available here, a UVI press release has made known.<\/p>\n

The North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) Entry-Level Photovoltaic (PV) program will be offered 8:00 am \u2013 5:00 pm from August 17-21, 2015. Classes will be held at the Research and Technology Park (RTPark) on the Albert A. Sheen Campus.<\/p>\n

The intensive one-week program provides a basic understanding of the terms and operational aspects of a photovoltaic or solar heating system. The course can be used as a basis for entry into the industry and can lead to other certifications and employment. Upon successful completion of the course, participants can sit for the NABCEP entry-level exam which demonstrates that they have achieved a basic knowledge of the fundamental principles of the application, design, installation and operation of grid-tied and stand-alone PV systems or solar heating systems.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is just the first step in meeting our mandate to develop the solar energy industry across the Caribbean,\u201d said Dr. Wayne Archibald, director of CGTC. \u201cOur goal is to prepare a highly skilled and qualified workforce for employment for this emerging sector.”<\/p>\n

The program is being offered through the University of the Virgin Islands’ Caribbean Green Technology Center (CGTC) and is administered through the UVICELL Center.<\/p>\n
