CROIX &#8212;\u00a0James Cruz, 20, pleaded guilty today in District Court to using a firearm during a crime of violence, United States Attorney Ronald W.\u00a0Sharpe announced on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the plea, Cruz admitted that on February 21, 2015 at the\u00a0St. Croix Educational Complex, <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/viconsortium.com\/virgin-islands-2\/machine-gun-wielding-carjacking-suspects-arrested-vehicle-recovered\/\" target=\"_blank\">he and an accomplice ordered<\/a><\/span> two people onto the\u00a0ground at gun point, and then drove off with their pick-up truck. VIPD officers pursued Cruz and his accomplice, who abandoned the truck\u00a0and fled on food in the Longpoint area. The officers quickly captured them.<\/p>\n<p>The accomplice is a juvenile and has been adjudicated through the Office of the\u00a0Attorney General of the Virgin Islands.<\/p>\n<p>A sentencing hearing for Cruz is set for November 24, 2015. Cruz faces a\u00a0mandatory minimum sentence of seven years in prison. He is detained pending\u00a0sentencing.<\/p>\n<p>This case was investigated by the VIPD and the Federal Bureau of Investigation,\u00a0and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Christian H.
