ST. CROIX\u00a0\u2013 District Court Judge Wilma A. Lewis on August 11, sentenced\u00a0Marcel Scotland, 31, to six months in prison for providing prison contraband, US Attorney Ronald W. Sharpe announced on Thursday. Judge Lewis also sentenced Scotland to serve three years of\u00a0supervised release and pay a fine of $1,000 and a special assessment of $100.<\/p>\n
On January 16, 2015, Scotland pleaded guilty in District Court on here to providing prison contraband.<\/p>\n
According to the plea agreement filed with the court, on January 31, 2014,\u00a0Scotland was a corrections officer employed with the Virgin Islands Bureau of Corrections\u00a0(\u201cBOC\u201d) on the island. When Scotland entered the Golden Grove Correctional Facility on that\u00a0day, a search of his bag by a fellow corrections officer revealed multiple cigarette lighters, rolling\u00a0papers, cookies, multiple dime baggies and a bag containing approximately 64 grams of\u00a0marijuana.<\/p>\n
