ST. THOMAS — \u00a0In 2013, Cutting Edge Entertainment, Inc.\u00a0and Digitak Films embarked on the production of the film, Timeless: A Caribbean Love Story. Now, the completion of Timeless has made cinematic history for the Virgin Islands as the first feature\u00a0length film written by a Virgin Islander, made in the USVI and starring aspiring actors living in the territory, according to a press release issued this morning.<\/p>\n
The production team and cast is inviting the public to join them in celebrating the official movie premiere on Saturday, September 19, 2015.<\/p>\n
The red\u00a0carpet event will be held at the Reichhold Center for the Arts. Doors will open at 6:00 p.m. and the\u00a0movie will begin promptly at 7:30 p.m. There will be open seating so individuals are encouraged to\u00a0come early to get the best seats. Movie snacks and drinks will be on sale as well.<\/p>\n
Event-goers are asked to bring their cameras as they walk the red carpet and enjoy a quick selfie at the photo booth, the release states. \u00a0Stars will also be available for group pictures.<\/p>\n
\u201cPremiering our film at the Reichhold Center feels like a hard-earned homecoming\u201d,\u00a0says David Edgecombe, producer of Timeless. \u201cThe performing arts have always been\u00a0important in Caribbean culture but now we prefer to watch movies instead of plays. What\u00a0Timeless will do is show Virgin Islanders that we can make quality films right here, using our\u00a0talent to tell our own stories. The effects of which will hopefully be the start of a Virgin Islands\u00a0film industry based in a love and appreciation of the Arts.\u201d<\/p>\n
Timeless is a love story, and like some love stories, especially Caribbean ones, things get complicated. Some of the social issues explored\u00a0in the movie are the slave trade of the past and the human trafficking currently being seen in the territory, the release added.<\/p>\n
The movie opens in Ghana, West Africa in 1800 with two young people\u00a0passionately in love. It is though, an ill-fated love, made more pointed by the Atlantic Slave Trade.\u00a0In present day St. Thomas, Alphonse, a young Virgin Islander, comes home from New York\u00a0after publishing his first novel to great reviews. When a beautiful young woman from the\u00a0Dominican Republic catches his eye and heart, an unknown history begins to repeat itself.<\/p>\n
This Caribbean drama was written and directed by Edward LaBorde, Jr. and produced by David\u00a0Edgecombe. It stars Kmisha Victoria Counts, Brummell Germain, Monai Greene, Julien K. Baa,\u00a0Sulay de la Rosa, Elaine Jacobs, Bianca Castillo, Shanaka Harris, Margarita Aqustin, Laurel\u00a0Samuel, Ameriko Cabrera, Sean Georges, Janiesha John and Kenya Eugene.<\/p>\n
