THOMAS &#8212; Governor Kenneth Mapp signed several contracts on Wednesday for the Department of Public Works which will vastly improve road conditions for the territory on all three islands, according to a Government House press release.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><span class=\"\" lang=\"EN-CARRIBEAN\">On St. Croix, Mapp signed a contract with V.I. Paving for road work on Emancipation Drive from Hannah\u2019s Rest signal light to Claude O. Markoe Elementary School.\u00a0 V.I. Paving is expected to commence work on this project immediately.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><span class=\"\">On St. John, emergency roadway repairs will take place on Route 10, Centerline Road.\u00a0 The damage to this road was a result of Tropical Storm Otto and has affected travel on the island since the then. Island Roads will commence work on said project immediately, the release stated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><span class=\"\" lang=\"EN-CARRIBEAN\">Governor Mapp also signed a contract with Island Roads for the finalization of the Rothschild Francis \u201cMarket Square\u201d Rehabilitation Project on St. Thomas. Residents have been waiting for the completion of this project and work is scheduled to begin immediately.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><span class=\"\" lang=\"EN-CARRIBEAN\">\u201cThese projects continue to serve as an example of my administration\u2019s commitment to the people of the Virgin Islands, to rebuild our roads and improve our infrastructure\u201d\u00a0Mapp said.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ST.
