ST. CROIX — The St. Croix Foundation for Community\u00a0Development will celebrate 25 years of leadership and service in the\u00a0Virgin Islands on Thursday, September 24th, at their annual Birthday\u00a0Block Party in the Sunday Market Square in downtown Christiansted\u00a0from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM, a press release the nonprofit issued on Friday reveals.<\/p>\n
The annual celebration is being held in\u00a0conjunction with the Croix Chamber of Commerce\u2019s After Hours and will\u00a0also showcase the work of some of the community-based projects and\u00a0initiatives currently operating under the Foundation’s 501(c)3\u00a0umbrella.<\/p>\n
As a critical component of the Foundation\u2019s programmatic\u00a0portfolio, fiscal sponsorship services have provided a reliable and\u00a0accountable vehicle through which grassroots organizations can pursue\u00a0their mission under the guidance of the Foundation\u2019s established\u00a0nonprofit status. Today, as a preeminent provider of fiscal\u00a0sponsorship services in the Territory, the Foundation has managed\u00a0over $20 million dollars and has served an impressive number of over\u00a0200 projects over the past 25 years.<\/p>\n
The Foundation is encouraging\u00a0their partners and friends to come out and support these worthwhile\u00a0community projects, including the Artists Guild of St. Croix, the\u00a0Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Fund, Christiansted Community\u00a0Alliance, Crucian Heritage and Nature Tourism, Diane Hampton Breast\u00a0Cancer Project, Friends of Ham Bluff Lighthouse, St. Croix Pirate\u00a0Adventure, St. Croix Seashell Society, the Virgin Islands Good Food\u00a0Coalition, and the Virgin Islands Humane Learning Center.<\/p>\n
Established back in 1990 in the wake of Hurricane Hugo, one of\u00a0the most costly natural disasters in American history, the St. Croix\u00a0Foundation\u2019s founders, Phillip Gerard and Michael Neuburger\u00a0recognized that the critical needs of the community required more\u00a0than a mere grantmaker and chose a broader mandate. Today, the St.\u00a0Croix Foundation for Community Development functions as a hybrid\u00a0organization that is both a grantmaker and an operating foundation\u00a0administering programs and providing direct services.<\/p>\n
According to Executive Director, Deanna James, \u201cSince the\u00a0Foundation\u2019s inception, we have served as a conduit for over\u00a0$37,000,000 in funding for community based projects throughout the\u00a0Virgin Islands. In fact, over the past 15 years, SCFCD has developed\u00a0an incomparable track record of successful initiatives in a broad\u00a0range of programmatic areas from economic development, historic\u00a0restoration, public safety and public education reform as well as\u00a0supporting our nonprofit community.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAs a nonpartisan, apolitical community development organization,\u00a0for 25 years, SCFCD has demonstrated strong leadership, serving as an\u00a0agent of social transformation by brokering partnerships between\u00a0diverse stakeholders to forge innovative solutions for deeply\u00a0entrenched systemic problems,\u201d James continued.<\/p>\n
