ST. CROIX — Former Lieutenant Governor and Superior Court Judge Julio Brady, who died at the age of 73 on Wednesday, September 16, will lie in state in both island districts, giving community members are chance to pay their respects, a press release Government House issued on Monday afternoon has made known.<\/p>\n

Brady served as the lieutenant governor of the territory from 1983 to 1987 during the second term of former Governor Juan Francisco Luis, and has served as a Superior Court judge since 2006.<\/p>\n

But his career began long before his tenure as lieutenant governor or judge. The dedicated leader\u00a0began his legal career at the Legal Aid Society<\/span><\/a><\/span> of New York<\/span><\/a><\/span>, as a public defender<\/span><\/a><\/span>. He later served as an assistant U.S. Attorney<\/span><\/a><\/span> in the Virgin Islands from 1971 to 1973. Brady was later promoted by President Richard M. Nixon to U.S. Attorney<\/span><\/a><\/span> for the Virgin Islands.<\/span><\/p>\n

Governor Luis trusted Brady\u2019s leadership and tasked him to oversee the operations of six executive agencies dealing primarily with law enforcement and the justice system.<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2013, the Virgin Islands Legislature honored Brady for his many years of distinguished public service and his contributions to the Virgin Islands community.<\/span><\/p>\n

Brady is survived by his wife,\u00a0Gwendolyn Hall-Brady, currently serving in the Lieutenant Governor’s Office, his children: Andrew and Julie-Marie and grandchildren.<\/p>\n
