This letter was submitted to The Consortium this evening following a Senate hearing<\/a><\/span> at the Early B. Ottley Legislative Hall where senators grilled WICO board members and the owner of\u00a0Villa Fratelli Cresta, Jimez Ashby on the governor’s costly former monthly rental.<\/em><\/p>\n

Dear Editor:<\/p>\n

I kept waiting for a Senator to ask why the governor could not stay in Government House St.\u00a0Croix at the hearing today .<\/p>\n

Right now as long as a governor does not reside in Government House in the Capital they are\u00a0not abiding by the law. We have been told that the property at Estate Catherineberg, which\u00a0may (or may not) be covered under the “and property appurtenant to” language, is not\u00a0habitable, and we know that the designated residence has been renovated into offices.<\/p>\n

So as long as the governor is not residing where the law says he shall, why not reside\u00a0temporarily – while one or the other is made livable – in Government House in St. Croix and\u00a0save the people’s money?<\/p>\n

I hope this will be considered as plans are being made to rent another residence<\/p>\n
