ST. CROIX — Governor Kenneth Mapp has made good on his promise<\/a><\/span>. Last week, the administration said it would make available some $16 million in tax refund payments, and it has done just that as multiple residents have confirmed, sending in screenshots of their checks to The Consortium, including the example used above as this story’s feature image, for over $7,000<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n

Last Thursday, the Department of Finance Commissioner\u00a0Valdamier Collens and Bureau of Internal Revenue Director Marvin Pickering confirmed in a Government House press release that\u00a0$16 million of income tax refunds was being processed and would be disbursed by September 30, 2015.<\/p>\n

The refunds being paid are for tax year 2014, the release added. It further confirmed that all undisputed tax refunds for years 2011, 12 and 13 had been paid. Tax refunds for tax year 2015 are not due until April 2016.<\/p>\n

According to Pickering,\u00a0over $44 million in tax refunds have been released to taxpayers for fiscal year 2015 thus far.<\/p>\n

\u201cOnce the $16 million dollar batch is disbursed, total tax refunds paid will amount to $60 million by September 30, 2015,\u201d the BIR director said.<\/p>\n

Commissioner Collens stated that the Department of Finance remains committed to disbursing the tax refunds as quickly as possible.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe intend to have these refunds on the street by September 30,\u201d Collens\u00a0emphasized. \u00a0Both agency heads acknowledged the hard work and dedication of their employees in the continuous processing and payment of income tax refunds, according to the release.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
