ST. CROIX — The Mapp administration is continuing its efforts to repair damaged roads here, a press release Government House issued late Monday has revealed. Road work was only recently completed<\/a><\/span> on Emancipation Drive in Frederiksted, and soon construction will commence on Sion Hill road and Company Street in Christiansted.<\/p>\n

Governor Kenneth Mapp today signed the contracts for the Department of Public Works. The first, budgeted for\u00a0$251,022.92 for the Sion Hill road, and the second, for Company Street, budgeted at\u00a0$363,246.42, according to the release.<\/p>\n

The work in Sion Hill begins\u00a0at Freewill Baptist Church and ends at Rattan in the area of the Old Water Tank. VIAPCO has been awarded the contract for the work, which is expected to commence within the next several weeks, upon the issuing of the Notice to Proceed, the release further stated.<\/p>\n

The Company Street work has been contracted to the same company, and is projected to be completed within the next 60 calendar days. It will be milled down four inches deep, repaired then resurfaced, according to the release. The work will\u00a0encompass the complete length of Company Street.<\/p>\n

“I am looking forward to the work that is about to commence in the Sion Hill and downtown Christiansted areas,” Public Works Commissioner Gustav James said. “I want to remind the motoring public to observe any detours in the traffic flow and be aware of flagmen and workmen.<\/p>\n
