ST. CROIX — Governor Kenneth Mapp today signed a contract for the Department of Public Works\u00a0with Virgin Islands Paving, Inc., for road work on Midland Road, a press release Government House issued this evening reveals.<\/p>\n

According to the release, the project will “vastly improve” the lives of residents here traveling in the Glynn and Midland Road areas.<\/p>\n

\u201cFederal Highway Funds will be utilized to reconstruct major sections of roadways, in long need of repair\u201d said the territory’s leader.<\/p>\n

The Midland Road project is budgeted for $4,835,160.00 and is contracted to be complete within 330 days. The contract, the release further stated, provides for road repairs and repaving to Route 709, from Estate Barren Spot to Glynn and Route 72, from Coble to Holy Cross Church on Midland Road.<\/p>\n

The project is being funded through a U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration grant.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am looking forward to the additional work that is about to commence in the Glynn\/Midland Road area. This project comes on the heels of the Christiansted and Sion Hill projects,” advised Department of Public Works Commissioner Gustav James. “I want to remind the motoring public to observe any detours in the traffic flow and be aware of flagmen and workmen. If at all possible, use alternate routes to avoid delays.”<\/p>\n

According to the release, the Midland Road project is in addition to the following projects either completed, commenced or contracted since January of 2015: Brookman Road, St. Thomas, Coki Point Road, St. Thomas, Emancipation Drive<\/a><\/span>, St. Croix, Sion Hill<\/a><\/span>, St. Croix, Centerline Road, St. John, Catherineberg Intersection, St. Thomas and Company Street, St. Croix.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
