{"id":31788,"date":"2015-11-23T22:47:17","date_gmt":"2015-11-23T22:47:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/viconsortium.com\/?p=31788"},"modified":"2015-11-23T22:47:17","modified_gmt":"2015-11-23T22:47:17","slug":"uvi-launches-buy-a-brick-campaign","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/wp.viconsortium.com\/?p=31788","title":{"rendered":"UVI Launches Buy A Brick Campaign"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\"><span class=\"\">Members of the community can establish a permanent presence on the campus of the University of the Virgin Islands through the new \u201cBuy A Brick\u201d fundraising campaign, according to a press release UVI issued this afternoon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><span class=\"\">UVI is offering the public an opportunity to purchase bricks that can be imprinted with a person\u2019s name, organization, or date commemorating a special event. The bricks will be placed at three different sites:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"\" type=\"disc\">\n<li class=\"\"><span class=\"\">Albert A. Sheen St. Croix Campus, east of the residence hall;<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"\"><span class=\"\">St. Thomas Campus, upper campus, south of the School of Nursing;<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"\"><span class=\"\">Reichhold Center for the Arts, near the box office.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\"><span class=\"\">The Buy A Brick program is part of a new fundraising effort titled \u201cCampaign for UVI.\u201d Monies raised from the purchase of bricks on the Albert A. Sheen and St. Thomas campuses will be used to support areas of greatest need at UVI.\u00a0 The bricks purchased for placement at the Reichhold Center will support the Center\u2019s operational activities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><span class=\"\">Buy A Brick will be a year-round, annual activity, with purchases available throughout the year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><span class=\"\">The Buy a Brick Program, as part of the Campaign for UVI, provides the resources needed to take UVI farther on its Pathway to Greatness.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><span class=\"\">\u201c<\/span><span class=\"\">UVI\u2019s dedication to student success has produced a Pulitzer Prize winner, a mathematician who discovered two new prime numbers, Rhodes scholars, Thurgood Marshall Scholars, scientists, professionals, entrepreneurs, and heads of state who are leaders in the region and the world,\u201d said UVI\u2019s Capital Campaign Manager Jose Raul Carrillo. \u201cThis fundraising effort will build on those activities and encourage further student success.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><span class=\"\">\u00a0 Monies raised from the Buy A Brick program supports outstanding teaching and scholarships, high quality academic programs, and cutting edge research.\u00a0 Additionally, funds help support initiatives ranging from the Global Institute for Leadership and Management Development held each summer, to partnerships with the National Science Foundation and local education, government, and business communities to promote the development of the Territory\u2019s science and technology resources.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><span class=\"\">\u201cThis is an exciting opportunity for the public to display their support for UVI in a very tangible way,\u201d said Mitchell Neaves, vice president for Institutional Advancement.\u00a0 \u201cWe encourage not only individuals, but alumni groups, rotary clubs, churches, class organizations to imprint their name on a brick for placement on the campus of their choice.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><span class=\"\">Sororities, fraternities, and high school reunion groups are also invited to imprint their name on a brick.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><span class=\"\">The bricks can be purchased in two sizes:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"\">4\u201d x 8\u201d with up to three lines of engraving and up to 18 characters per line<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"\">8\u201d x 8\u201d with up to six lines of engraving and up to 18 characters per line<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\"><span class=\"\">Orders must be received with full payment by Jan. 15.
