ST. CROIX — Governor Kenneth Mapp on Tuesday revealed new nominees to fill critical positions on two boards: the Waste Management Authority (WMA) and the Virgin Islands Port Authority (VIPA). Among the names, Marvin Forbes, a staunch support of the governor, who has defended<\/a><\/span> the territory’s leader’s actions and decisions on social forums and on talk radio, among other venues, was chosen by Mr. Mapp to serve on VIPA’s Board of Trustees for the district of St. Croix.<\/p>\n

According to the release, Mr. Forbes is a local businessman with a strong background in information technology, adding that Mr. Forbes has ran his own business on this island for over 20 years. Mr. Forbes is also the President of the VI Action Group, a watchdog organization that is focused on ensuring fair elections in the territory.<\/p>\n

Mr. Forbes’ presence saw ubiquity during the 2014 General Elections here, becoming involved in contentious arguments with Board of Elections members, the most memorable being a fallout between Mr. Forbes and board member Raymond Williams<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n

“I have over 20 years of progressive experience negotiating contracts and managing employees. I am dedicated to transparent and efficient Government operations and I plan on bringing that to the VI Port Authority upon confirmation by the 31st Legislature,” said Mr. Forbes.<\/p>\n

Governor Mapp added: “It is my pleasure to ask the advice and consent of the 31st Legislature on the nomination of Marvin Forbes to the VI Port Authority. Their prompt and favorable confirmation will enhance the board\u2019s ability to serve the people of the U.S. Virgin Islands.”<\/p>\n

Mr. Mapp also named La Toya Williams to WMA’s Board of Directors. According to the release, Ms. Williams\u00a0is eligible for the board position by virtue of her current position as the air pollution program environmental specialist at the Department of Planning and Natural Resources.<\/p>\n

Ms. Williams, according to the release, graduated from the\u00a0University of West Florida with a BS in biology and forensic sciences. She is also a graduate of the Hovensa, LLC Training Department with a focus on safety, OSHA, EPA procedures and regulations, and conflict resolution.<\/p>\n

“Ms. LaToya Williams brings experience and a willingness to serve. This will enhance the Waste Management\u2019s ability to meet its busy agenda,” Mr. Mapp said.<\/p>\n
