ST. THOMAS — The Virgin Islands Next Generation Network community development team is distributing Holiday Care Packages this week to the Bethlehem House Shelter for the Homeless here and My Brother\u2019s Table on St. Croix, a press release the semi-autonomous entity issued late Monday makes known.<\/p>\n
The packets contain toiletry items, a water bottle and a list of 33 free public computer centers located around the community, according to the release. Both organizations provide urgently needed services, and viNGN wanted to give to the community in a meaningful way, said viNGN Community Development Coordinator Yvonne Fenton.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe chose Bethlehem House and My Brother\u2019s Table due to all the individuals and families they assist, especially at this time of year,” she said. “We also want give the individuals who find themselves in need the opportunity to get training that may help them find a job or develop entrepreneurial skills for the future.\u00a0 We have public computer centers on all three islands that anyone can use for free.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms. Fenton also urged those with limited or no computer experience to give learning a chance.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe encourage everyone to check out our Absolute Beginners Computer Lab, which provides the practical skills needed to be able to move on to bigger and greater things in the Digital Literacy Journey,” she said.<\/p>\n
To access the course, interested parties should visit www.vingn.com and click the \u201cDigital Literacy” icon. There is also a downloadable PDF version of the course for those who need to access the material where there is no computer or internet access.<\/p>\n
