ST. CROIX — The Rotary Club of St. Croix, in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. and the National Day of Service, fed the less fortunate at the Christian \u201cShan\u201d Hendricks Market in Christiansted on Monday, according to a press release the organization issued.<\/p>\n
\u201cToday was very special in that we were able to provide a hot lunch and a to-go bag meal for more than 80 people,\u201d Club President Sandra Gerard-Leung said. The hot lunch included chicken, pork (donated by the Bureau of Corrections), rice and beans, vegetables and salad. The meals were prepared by Zenny of Zenny\u2019s Restaurant.<\/p>\n
The to-go package also included sandwiches, a fruit, juice, water, cake, candies, cookies and chips. Mrs. Gerard-Leung said that she had asked club members to make extra donations to help bring the effort to fruition.<\/p>\n
The Club thanked VI Fire Service Chief Larry Johnson, Deputy Chief Gregory Williams, and in particular, Firefighters Stedroy Francis and Jamie Santos for cleaning the market in preparation for the feeding, according to the release.<\/p>\n
The Rotary Club of St. Croix provides meals for the less fortunate four or five times a year and supports the Catholic Charities Food Kitchen throughout the year, the release concluded.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
