ST. THOMAS — Hall Pass, the Virgin Islands Department of Education\u2019s new weekly talk show produced in conjunction with the Virgin Islands Public Broadcasting System, will premiere on Tuesday, Feb. 2 at 8:30 p.m. on WTJX TV Channel 12, a press release D.O.E. issued this afternoon has made known.<\/p>\n
The half-hour show will explore topics relevant to public education in the Virgin Islands and will highlight student successes from both school districts, as well as Department leadership, employees and other special guests. Additionally, Hall Pass will feature in-studio student performances and viewers will get a birds-eye view of many of the exciting activities taking place at the Department\u2019s schools when WTJX cameras go into the classrooms.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are many good things happing at our schools. Hall Pass will help us get the word out as we work to transform public education in the Virgin Islands,\u201d said Education Commissioner Sharon Ann McCollum, Ph.D.<\/p>\n
In Episode 1, Host Jerae Forde sits down with Commissioner McCollum to talk about her first year as Commissioner of Education and to learn what drives her passion for Education. Dion Parson and Dionne Donadelle, co-founders of the VI Youth Ensemble\u2014a group comprised of advanced jazz students from Ivanna Eudora Kean High School, Charlotte Amalie High School, St. Croix Educational Complex and Central High School\u2014also visit the Hall Pass set to talk about the dynamic group of young people. The show will feature a special in-studio performance by one of the jazz students.<\/p>\n
