ST. CROIX — The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority announced late Wednesday night that its customers from Richmond to Kingshill experienced water service interruption after a\u00a0leak developed in the vicinity of the Sunny Isle Shopping Center on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n
As a result, according to W.A.P.A., the Contentment pump station was taken off line, which then caused customers from\u00a0Richmond to Kingshill to be without water service.<\/p>\n
W.A.P.A. said there is no estimated time as to when repairs will be completed and service restored.<\/p>\n
Earlier on Wednesday, W.A.P.A. was conducting repairs on\u00a0a broken 12-inch water main that runs along Melvin Evans Highway.\u00a0The section of pipe is the main potable water link between the east and west ends of the island, according to W.A.P.A.<\/p>\n
Crews worked throughout the day to make repairs to the pipe after isolating the immediate area of damage so as to minimize the water service interruption impact on potable water customers. WAPA Interim Executive Director Julio Rhymer said Wednesday night that less than a half dozen customers in front of The Home Depot store and no more than 20 customers whose residences are located to the rear of the store were expected to be without water service while repairs were carried out.<\/p>\n
