ST. CROIX — The Virgin Islands Police Department is searching for a new public information officer, as Kevin Jackson, above, who’s held the position from the onset of the Mapp administration, has resigned.<\/p>\n

That’s according to Police Commissioner Delroy Richards, who confirmed the news to The Consortium in a brief interview on Sunday morning.<\/p>\n

Mr. Richards said Mr. Jackson initially requested a two-year leave after he was offered a position to work on the Centennial Commission<\/a><\/span>, however the commissioner said he told Mr. Jackson that the request would not be possible, and that Mr. Jackson would need to resign.<\/p>\n

He did.<\/p>\n

“It happens all the time, people start working with you and they’re given a better offer and they leave. It’s no hard feelings, it was amicable,” Mr. Richards told The Consortium. He added that the V.I.P.D. is currently searching for a new public information officer, and that an announcement would be forthcoming.<\/p>\n

Sakeeda Freeman, who was hired as the force’s media specialist to support Mr. Jackson with St. Thomas crime reports, retains her position.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
