CROIX — The Virgin Islands Police Department and the Department of Licensing and Consumer Affairs issued separate press releases on Tuesday, warning business establishments such as bars and restaurants not to sell distilled alcohol between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Good Friday, which is the day Jesus Christ was crucified, according to the Bible.<\/p>\n
Citing VI Code Subsection 171, the V.I.P.D. press release said violators could be fined $200, or face up to one year in jail.<\/p>\n
According to D.L.C.A., distilled liquor includes spirits and can be defined as grain alcohol, with a high alcohol content. Examples of distilled spirits include brandy, whiskey, rum, gin, and vodka. This does not include beverages such as beer, wine, and cider, as they are fermented but not distilled, and include relatively low alcohol content usually below 15 percent.<\/p>\n
