ST. CROIX — Senators who make up the Committee on Rules and Judiciary, chaired by Senator Kenneth Gittens, approved\u00a0Attorney Natalie Nelson Tang How, above, as chief labor negotiator for the Office of Collective Bargaining on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
By way of resume, Mrs. Tang How has had her own law practice for the past 16 years, with her office located in downtown Christiansted. From the onset, her practice has focused on labor, unemployment and civil rights law. She also served as the legal counsel\/director of labor relations for the Virgin Islands Department of Labor from 1996-1999.<\/p>\n
Mrs. Tang How is well learned, too, earning her juris doctorate degree from the University of Florida in 1992, and a certification in labor relations and contract administration studies from Cornell University School of Industrial and Labor Relations in New York, in 2000. The attorney also attained a bachelor of science degree, cum laude in sociology with a minor in criminal justice from Mercy College in New York, in 1998.<\/p>\n
Mrs. Tang How is the eldest of four siblings, born to parents Trevor and Judith Nelson, who migrated here from Trinidad when she was five years old. She is married to Lincoln Tang How, and has two sons, Rafael Jr. and Lincoln Jr.<\/p>\n
She was approved by the committee without opposition.<\/p>\n
The committee also approved, albeit narrowly, the nomination of Samuel Garnett – who spent most of his career at the\u00a0Bureau of Corrections from 1970 to 1993 in multiple capacities — to the Virgin Islands Lottery Commission.<\/p>\n
Voting for Mr. Garnett were Senators Novelle Francis, Jean Forde, Gittens and Justin Harrigan. Senators Janette Millin Young and Nereida Rivera-O’Reilly voted against. Neville James absent.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
