ST. CROIX — The Bureau of Internal Revenue said via press release on Friday that Monday, April 18 is the deadline to file individual income tax returns, and to accommodate last-minute filers, it has extended its hours in both districts.<\/p>\n
In St. Croix, B.I.R.’s office will be open on Monday from\u00a07:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.<\/p>\n
In St. Thomas, the hours will be extended from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. in Red Hook and Nisky Center. The St. John office will be open until 5:00 p.m.<\/p>\n
The release says taxpayers who are unable to file their 2015 returns by the April 18 due date are reminded that they can file an extension by using form 4868. To obtain approval of the extension, the taxpayer must properly estimate the tax liability due and file the form 4868 no later than April 18. The extension is only for the filing of the tax return. Taxpayers who owe taxes must pay on April 18 to avoid the penalty.<\/p>\n
