ST. THOMAS — The more than 500 people who attended this year\u2019s 2016 Caribbean Color exhibit at Yacht Haven Grande on Friday chose Lisa Parfitt\u2019s glass mosaic, “The Rooster,\u201d as the \u201cBest in Show\u201d artist, a press release Art VI Advocates issued today has made known.<\/p>\n
The 2016 Caribbean Color, Live Life in Yellow art exhibition was hosted by Artvi Advocates. This annual event celebrates the diversity, creativity, and quality of work being produced in the U.S. Virgin Islands, according to the organizers.<\/p>\n
“Choosing a favorite artwork was no easy task, as there were many imaginative works of art submitted this year, several of which were whimsical 3-dimentional installations or interactive art pieces,\u201d said Priscilla Hintz Rivera Knight, co-curator and executive director of ARTVI.<\/p>\n
Featured in the exhibition were more than 70 works of art from local resident artists from all three islands, as well as more than 30 works of art by students from, Bertha C. Boschulte Middle school, St. Croix Educational Complex, St. Croix Central High, Antilles school, the School of Visual Arts and Careers among others.<\/p>\n
Other exhibition winners included School of Visual Arts & Careers, student artist, Jendalne Antoine, who won first place in the student two-dimensional category for her painting “Afro Nature,” and painter, Clifton Berry, who took first prize for in the two dimensional category for his painting, ” Under the Yellow Sun.”<\/p>\n
In addition, to the exhibit and interactive community art installation, visitors to the exhibit Saturday were able to enjoy live painting performances by Ensor Colon and Art Explorium members, led by art teacher, Amy Gibbs.<\/p>\n
The exhibit will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday May 23rd<\/sup> and Tuesday, May 24th<\/sup>\u00a0 \u00a0and from 10 a.m. to Noon on Wednesday May 25th. The gallery is in the former Havana Nine store at Yacht Haven Grande.<\/p>\n Artvi Advocates is a non-profit organization whose mission is to support and promote the arts in order to enhance the cultural, social and economic well-being of the U.S. Virgin Islands through arts education and advocacy.
