ST. CROIX — The Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center (J.F.L.) announced via \u00a0press release late Thursday that the American College of Radiology (A.C.R.) has certified the J.F.L. Mammography Imaging Service.<\/p>\n
The Hospital\u2019s mammography unit is LORAD\u2019s 2015 Selenia Dimensions that MediMax installed in early September 2015, according to the release. It was provisionally endorsed by A.C.R. to permit its users to seek full accreditation. Now it is fully accredited for screening, diagnostic, and interventional use from May 17, 2016 through August 16, 2019.<\/p>\n
The Committee on Mammography Accreditation of the Commission on Quality and Safety surveyed J.F.L. Diagnostic Imaging Department. The imaging team underwent an intensive process that started last October. The staff had to submit samples of their work for review by different mammography specialists.<\/p>\n

The Women\u2019s Imaging section of the Radiology Department did 47 stereotactic breast biopsies, 22 ultrasound guided vacuum breast biopsies, and more than 30 breast core biopsies\/aspirations since the new mammography unit was installed in September 2015, according to the release.<\/p>\n
A.C.R. Accreditation is the gold standard in medical imaging. World-wide, A.C.R. accredits more than 38,000 facilities in 10 imaging modalities, as mandated under the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act and the Mammography Quality Standards Act.<\/p>\n
