ST. CROIX — Months after her history-making victories in St. Croix and St. Thomas<\/a><\/span>, defeating venerable competitors on both islands, Temisha Libert, known in calypso as Caribbean Queen<\/a><\/span>, triumphed over competitors over the weekend in Atlanta, further cementing her upward journey as a mainstay and august star in the industry.<\/p>\n

Ms. Libert competed on Friday against calypsonians Quacko, R. Smart, Baker Jr., Gemerald, Empress Natty, True and Danskie. She bested them with her songs “I Believe” and “Calypso Licks”.<\/p>\n

“It’s an amazing feeling to be on stage away from [home], representing the Virgin Islands and to also take home the crown once again,” she told The Consortium on Saturday. “To win three competitions in a row is just mind-blowing, while making history in my last competition and making history once again by being the first female calypsonian from the VI to hold three crowns all at once in less than 6 months.”<\/p>\n

Ms. Libert won the Atlanta competition over last year’s winner Empress Natty, a Trinidadian who placed 1st runner-up this year, and against 2nd runner-up Gemerald, who also represented the territory. She credited her\u00a0writer and producer Carol Hodge, who resides in New York, for being an integral part of her rise.<\/p>\n

“Our love for music and cultivating the art form of calypso worldwide is our mission by taking it to another level and also inspiring my young generation to embrace our culture and join in this effort with me. I’m all about keeping our culture,” she said.<\/p>\n

Ms. Libert’s next event is the respected Leeward Islands Calypso Monarch, held in Anguilla and features veterans from around the Caribbean. But the three wins have boosted Ms. Libert’s confidence in taking on the upcoming challenges, including her first ever foray into the popular St. Croix Soca Monarch, helmed by\u00a0Alvin Burke Jr.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

The local star also noted her faith as a foundation of who she is, thanking God for the abilities she says He bestowed on her.\u00a0“God has been a tremendous force in guiding me every step of the way through each competition, and I will continue to give him all the glory and honor for the amazing gift and efforts He’s instilled in me,” she said.<\/p>\n

And Ms. Libert expressed gratitude to supporters: “Thank you to everyone who support and believe in me because without you, there’s no me. I will represent the Virgin Islands with honor and pride everywhere I go,” she concluded.<\/p>\n

The Virgin Islands celebrity<\/a><\/span> is more than a calypsonian; the former queen and popular personality is also a medical professional and advocate for changing lives through medicine. Additionally, she is often used to host various televised events and other important functions territory-wide.<\/p>\n
