ST. THOMAS — The Committee for the Betterment of Carenage (C.B.C., Inc.) announced via press release on Sunday the annual Father\u2019s Day Weekend Celebration in Frenchtown, happening this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, June 17-19, 2016.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe committee, now in its 21st year of organizing and producing this annual celebration, invites the community to come together in Frenchtown to participate in an event that has become a traditional recognition of the territory\u2019s fathers and father figures,\u201d said Franklin \u201cFrankie\u201d Sewer, Vice President of C.B.C.<\/p>\n
According to the release, this event brings together the wider community to celebrate those individuals who have taken serious the role of fatherhood and the upbringing of their children, Mr. Sewer said, adding, \u201cIn a sense we also honor the single mothers who also provide for their children as both mother and father. While it is becoming more and more apparent in many instances that the father figure of the family is absent, there are just as many shining examples of the father, step father, godfather, grandfather and great grandfather who stand shoulder to shoulder with a child\u2019s mother in the upbringing of her child or children.\u201d<\/p>\n
The festivities kick off on Friday, June 17 at 6:30 p.m. with an opening ceremony and crowning of Miss Carenage 2016, C\u2019Anne Hunt. Ms. Hunt, a sophomore at Charlotte Amalie High School, comes from a family that has been deeply rooted in the French community for generations. The daughter of Cindy Richardson and Anthony Hunt, C\u2019Anne is honored to continue to carry the torch in keeping the traditions, history, and heritage of Carenage burning.<\/p>\n
Following the opening ceremony on Friday, the Sammy Watts Combo will entertain followed by the 2016 Road March Champions Spectrum Band. On Saturday the line entertainment features P\u2019your Passion Band and Poizon Band and on Sunday, Top Notch Band will get things started in the late afternoon followed by the wildy popular Cool Session Brass rounding out the weekend celebration. DJ Tony Tee of 105 JAMZ will entertain before each night\u2019s live entertainment and between the band\u2019s performances.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are pleased to present some of the island\u2019s best entertainment for those that will join the celebration in Frenchtown this weekend,\u201d said Gail Danet Joseph, CBC Treasurer and chairwoman of the weekend celebration. \u201cThe committee invites everyone to come out and sample the finest local cuisine at the seven booths that will surround the Father\u2019s Day Village. There will be plenty to eat and drink and this is a great opportunity to meet up with friends and family in the celebration of our fathers.\u201d Aside from food and drinks, there will be activities for the children and the adults who are young at heart.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe committee thanks the business community which continues to provide support for this weekend celebration even in the tough economic climate we face. Countless others have provided support and in kind services for which we are grateful,\u201d Mrs. Danet Joseph said.<\/p>\n
