ST. CROIX — If you take a drive down Frederiksted today, make sure to look to your right across the Amigos Bar and Restaurant, also called PaQuito’s. Your eyes should be pleased with what they see.<\/p>\n

All last weekend, members of a church in Puerto Rico named House of Worship, visited the St. Croix branch of the ministry specifically to paint a mural aimed at depicting the connection Jesus Christ has with people in the Virgin Islands. On Sunday, the job, almost complete, captured the gaze of passersby — as intended by painters — with bright colors and inescapable art.<\/p>\n

“We tried to show St. Croix and God, and how they work together,” said Brenda Rohena, a member of the local church. In the mural, Jesus is shown painting a rather colorful world — meant to show the diversity of cultures here — on one end, while a guy is seen doing the same on the other end. Their headphones are connected to show communication, with the headphone’s cord painted red to reflect the blood of Jesus, which was shed for the sins of the world so that mankind could be reunited with God, according to the Bible.<\/p>\n

Karen Gonzalez, who came up with the original concept, said they were throwing ideas around, and eventually agreed on attempting to show the relationship Jesus has with people. “First, it was a canvas, and then with everybody pitching in, it came together. But the main story we’re trying to tell is that people have not been forgotten by Him,” Ms. Gonzalez said.<\/p>\n

The mural was not complete when The Consortium visited, but church leaders said it would be today.<\/p>\n
