ST. CROIX — Governor Kenneth Mapp has nominated\u00a0Olaf G. Hendricks, M.D., to the Juan F. Luis Governing Board of Directors, according to a press release Government House issued late Tuesday. \u00a0The term of the appointment is three years, in accordance with the hospital’s statutes.<\/p>\n
In his letter presenting the nomination to Senate President Neville James, Mr. Mapp urged the Legislature\u2019s prompt and favorable confirmation to enhance the board\u2019s ability to meet a busy agenda and serve the people of the territory, according to the release.<\/p>\n
Dr. Hendricks has a long association with Governor Juan F. Luis Hospital, having served as president of medical staff on two occasions and as chief medical officer from 2007 to 2009. From 2007 to 2013, he served as the psychiatrist at The Village Rehabilitation Center on St. Croix, providing clinical services to the mentally ill, substance abuse patients and working with the MISAH program for the homeless.<\/p>\n
Apart from his medical practice, Dr. Hendricks is a co-founder of the Crucian Cultural Institute, the Hillsiders Association and the Crucian-Rican All-Ah We Organization. He was an original member of the board of governors of the Virgin Islands Cultural Heritage Institute, where he served for more than eight years. Dr. Hendricks has played saxophone with the Ten Sleepless Knights Quelbe Band and has hosted the radio program \u201cCommon Cause\u201d, which featured discussion of beliefs, attitudes and values of Virgin Islanders and other Caribbean people.<\/p>\n
Governor Mapp\u2019s nomination of Dr. Hendricks is in accordance with the provisions of Title 19, Chapter 16, Section 243, Virgin Islands Code.<\/p>\n
If approved by the Senate, Dr. Hendricks will join J.F.L. board members Troy deChabert Schuster, Vera Falu, Philip Arcidi, Aracelis Bermudez-Walcott and Theresa Frorup-Alie.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
