ST. THOMAS — Governor Kenneth Mapp will travel out of the territory today to Washington D.C. and New York as part of a week long business trip to the mainland, Government House announced late Thursday.<\/p>\n
The governor will first travel to Washington D. C. to attend the National Association of Black Journalists Founders Reception, which is being held at the Nation Museum of African American History and Culture on August 5. The 2016 NABJ and NAHJ Annual Convention and Career Fair is the premier venue for journalism education and career development for the nation\u2019s leaders in media, business, arts and entertainment, and technology.<\/p>\n
Mr. Mapp is also slated to meet with officials from the New York Police Academy where V.I.P.D. officers are receiving training. According to Government House, the governor has committed to continuing training and dedicating resources to crime fighting efforts in the territory. Officer training is a key aspect of these efforts, reads the release.<\/p>\n
Mr. Mapp will return to the U.S. Virgin Islands on Thursday, August 11. During his absence, Lieutenant Governor Osbert Potter will serve as acting governor.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
