ST. THOMAS — Senator Marvin Blyden bested his colleagues<\/a><\/span> and newcomers alike in today’s primary election in the St. Thomas district, securing\u00a01,596 votes or 15.43 percent, heading into November as the strongest incumbent from the 31st Legislature here.<\/p>\n

Senator Myron Jackson, serving his second term in the Senate, came in strong in second place with\u00a01,534 votes or 14.83 percent. He was followed by Senate Vice President Janette Millin Young, who captured\u00a01,422 votes or 13.75 percent, and Justin Harrigan, who garnered a respectable\u00a01,326 votes or 12.82 percent. Jean Forde placed 5th with\u00a01,229 votes or 11.88 percent.<\/p>\n

It is often said that St. Thomians don’t change senators regularly as Crucians, but the departure of Senator Clifford Graham, — who is serving his final few months in the 31st Legislature as he’s chosen not to seek reelection — created an opening for newcomer\u00a0Kevin A. Rodriguez, who secured\u00a01,017\u00a0votes\u00a0or 9.83 percent.<\/p>\n

Former senator\u00a0Patrick Simeon Sprauve came in seventh place with 908 votes or 8.78 percent. And Senator Tregenza Roach, an independent sitting senator<\/a><\/span>, will be on the ballot for the General Election.<\/p>\n
