ST. THOMAS — The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority on Monday advised residents living in the Peterborg area of St. Thomas that effective Sunday, August 14, the authority will permanently close the Peterborg bin site.<\/p>\n
Residents currently using the Peterborg bin site are advised to use the new Mandahl Convenience Center for the disposal of their solid waste. The convenience center is a manned facility with operating hours for the disposal of solid waste, and other special waste items.<\/p>\n
The Mandahl Convenience Center operating hours are:<\/span><\/p>\n W.M.A. says the convenience centers represent a new direction as it moves towards closing the open bin site system. Replacement of the open bin system with convenience centers is part of W.M.A.’s plans to improve the efficiency of solid waste collection and disposal services throughout the territory, according to the release.<\/span><\/p>\n At the new Mandahl Convenience Center, household waste is collected within compactors and special waste items such as appliances (white goods) and furniture (bulk waste) are accepted on a rotating weekly schedule. White goods and bulk waste will be accepted on alternating weeks. The special waste collection schedule for each week is posted on the center\u2019s directory. Residents may also secure a brochure with information about the center\u2019s operations, policies and its special waste collection schedule at the Mandahl Convenience Center.<\/span><\/p>\n\n
