ST. THOMAS — Property and Procurement employees will soon join the thousands of other Virgin Islands government workers awarded raises authorized by Governor Kenneth Mapp and the 31st Legislature earlier this year, Government House made known on Friday via press release.<\/p>\n
The Office of Management and Budget and the Division of Personnel have finalized the necessary paperwork and ensured that funds are available to begin paying salary increases for P&P staff. According to the release, the raises are technically effective January 1, 2016 and all employees will receive lump sum payments retroactive to that day.<\/p>\n
Pay increases were promised by the Mapp administration last year and on May 3rd the governor signed Act 7873 into law, making the salary increases a reality. Government employees throughout the territory have received an annual average pay raise of $4,875.<\/p>\n
Property & Procurement salary hikes were somewhat delayed, but Commissioner Randolph Bennett reports that the “well deserving employees of his agency are ecstatic\u201d about the news that raises are on the way.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have received several emails \u2013 my staff works very hard and these increases are a big help to them in meeting their financial obligations,\u201d Mr. Bennett said. \u201cWe all really appreciate the effort the administration has made in seeing this through.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr. Bennett indicated that about one third of all P&P employees would receive pay raises before the close of the territory\u2019s fiscal year on September 30, 2016.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
