ST. THOMAS — Governor Kenneth Mapp today appointed Dr. Anita Roberts, above, as the new commissioner of the Department of Human Services, effective Monday, August 29, Government House made known via press release today.<\/p>\n

Dr. Roberts is currently the deputy director of the Office of Management and Budget, with oversight of the Federal Grants Management Unit, according to the press release.<\/p>\n

Dr. Roberts holds a PHD in education from Walden University, graduated suma cum laude with a master\u2019s degree in behavioral organization from Kaplan University and received her bachelor of arts in criminal justice from Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts. As a business owner and consultant, Dr. Roberts has developed critical leadership skills with a focus on financial and resource management for private, public and nonprofit entities. Her grant writing and management experience has spanned the course of 14 years. In her current position at OMB, Dr. Roberts manages a team who oversees all federal grant spending, reporting and auditing requirements on behalf of the Government of the Virgin Islands, according to the release.<\/p>\n

\u201cBecause the Department of Human Services manages over 74 federal grant programs, I have asked Dr. Roberts to take on the leadership responsibilities of this critical department at this time,” Mr. Mapp said.<\/p>\n

During the course of her career, Dr. Roberts spent 15 years teaching elementary, junior high and college at both undergraduate and graduate levels. She is a current member of the National People Humanitarian Society and works to mentor young talent through positive development and inspirational motivation, according to Government House.<\/p>\n

Friday will be current D.H.S. Commissioner Vivian Ebbesen-Fludd’s last day at D.H.S. According to the release, the governor met with Mrs. Ebbesen-Fludd and personally thanked her for her service to the people of the territory.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
