ST. THOMAS — The safety status of the beaches on this island is unknown this weekend, as the Department of Planning and Natural Resources, responsible for evaluating the water quality of the territory’s popular beaches on a weekly basis, did not test the waters here, and failed to give an explanation as to why.<\/p>\n

All of St. Croix beaches were cleared as safe:\u00a0Stony Ground, Dorsch, Protestant Cay, Chenay Bay, Buccaneer, Davis Bay, Cane Bay, Cramer Park, Rainbow, Columbus Landing, Shoy\u2019s, New Fort (Ft. Louise Augusta), Frederiksted Public Beach, (First Target) Pelican Cove, (Comorant) Princess (Condo Row), Sprat Hall, Halfpenny and Grapetree Bay.<\/p>\n

D.P.N.R. says it\u00a0will continue to monitor these popular swimming areas. It also recommended that beachgoers use their own discretion when swimming or fishing at the designated beaches. If the waters appear muddy or murky or have foul odors, do not swim or fish, the agency says.<\/p>\n
