ST. THOMAS — A well-known St. Thomian drowned at Magens Bay on Thursday, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte announced this afternoon via press release.<\/p>\n
According to Mr. Dratte, at\u00a0approximately 5:07 p.m., police officers were dispatched by the 911 emergency call center to Magens Bay in reference to a woman drowning.<\/p>\n
Upon arrival, bystanders stated that a woman was snorkeling and was found out at sea floating face down. Lifeguards on the scene as well as bystanders performed numerous rounds of chest compressions before EMT and Rescue personnel arrived, but their attempts were unsuccessful.<\/p>\n
The victim was transported by ambulance to the Schneider Regional Medical Center, where they continued numerous attempts of CPR but the victim, 25-year-old Sherita Maxine Carty, was lifeless and pronounced dead by medical staff, according to Mr. Dratte.<\/p>\n
Social media has been flooded with condolence messages, with dozens more sharing a post Ms. Carty posted earlier on Thursday on her Facebook page, in reference to a dream she had.<\/p>\n
