ST. CROIX — As part of Hispanic Heritage Month, which is celebrated every year from September 15 to October 15, the Estate Profit Action Committee on Saturday held its 6th annual celebration at the Pedro “Pie” Cruz Baseball Park. It was to run from 2:00 p.m.-1:00 a.m.<\/p>\n
The event included vendors, entertainment and a speech from Governor Kenneth Mapp, who was set to address eventgoers at 7:00 p.m. This year the committee teamed up with AARP and other organizations to expand the effort. The Department of Health’s Public Health Preparedness Division was on hand with Zika information as well as items aimed at preventing the disease’s spread.<\/p>\n
The celebration was decorated with the flags of over 20 Spanish-speaking nations, with the main stage being dressed with the territory and U.S. flags, an important symbol of inclusion, according to Emilio Torres, president of Estate Profit Action Committee.<\/p>\n
“We cannot celebrate anything in the United States without having those two flags; at least the United States flag,” he said.<\/p>\n
